The community nominated hundreds of teachers from public and non-public schools in Winnebago and Boone Counties and participated in 320 observations of the 20 Finalists for the Golden Apple. Today that process culminated with surprise classroom presentations of five Golden Apple Teacher Awards to the following educators:

Golden Apple Foundation will celebrate “Jewels in Education” of grades 6 through 12 at the 17th Annual Golden Apple Excellence in Education Banquet on Friday, April 26, 2013.   Former and current students and their parents are encouraged to attend the “red carpet arrival” at 5:30 p.m. at the beautiful Radisson Hotel, 200 S. Bell School Rd.  Greet this year’s Golden Apple Teachers and the 2013 Puri Family Outstanding Principal as they arrive by limousine for this prestigious celebration of excellence in education.  Come support these Golden Apple Educators who excel at investing in our community’s future. Bring your cameras, your posters, your pom poms, wear your school colors and don’t miss it!!

The Golden Apple Education Service Award will be presented to an individual, couple, organization, or business for demonstrating a deep commitment to Excellence in Education in Winnebago and/or Boone County through volunteerism.

Golden Apple Foundation is pleased to announce the names of 20 Teachers from Winnebago and Boone County who have been selected to move forward in the process for the 2013 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.  These talented 6th-12th grade teachers were chosen by a selection committee of community volunteers who had the difficult task of selecting only 20 teachers from a large group of worthy nominees.

Golden Apple Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of the following 11 Teachers who received a total of $4,989.29 to fund 6 classroom projects. The teachers were recognized at the Golden Apple Foundation Board of Directors meeting on Monday, December 10, 2012.  

“Increasing Achievement with Autism”- Assists in meeting the communication and social interaction deficits that children on the Autism spectrum are faced with, providing materials, paired with communication tools for carryover of learning from school into the home environment. “The kind of teacher that students, in the future, will be thankful for.”  “A dedicated, engaging, and encouraging teacher with excellent teaching skills.”  These are just some of the comments about the 6-12th grade teachers, in Winnebago and Boone County, who are nominated for the prestigious Golden Apple Teacher Award for 2013.  During this past month, parents, students and colleagues of the teachers made 800 nominations for nearly 400 of their favorite teacher(s) who exemplify excellence in the classroom.

A Nominee Reception will be held to honor all nominees on Wednesday, November 14 at 4:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel, located at 200 S. Bell School Rd., Rockford.  District Superintendents and building principals will join Golden Apple Foundation Board Members, Sponsors, and School Board members in congratulating the nominees.

The Golden Apple Foundation Classroom Projects program affords teachers in Winnebago and Boone counties the opportunity to develop and implement creative educational projects that enhance the learning experience of their students. It provides teachers a resource for expanding and enhancing the curriculum for the benefit of students in Early Childhood/Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Kristina ReuberGolden Apple Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristina Reuber as executive director. Reuber comes to Golden Apple from La Voz Latina: Latino Community Resource Center, where she previously served as Youth Programs Director.

Golden Apple Foundation and award sponsor, Sunil Puri presented the 7th Annual Puri Family Outstanding Principal Award today to LuAnn Widergren, Principal of Brookview Elementary School in Rockford. Surprised in a gymnasium full of students, Mrs. Widergren was congratulated by members of the Golden Apple Foundation Board of Directors, Rockford School District Administrators, family members, Brookview staff and parents.
