Volunteer Opportunities

I KNOW I CAN - Volunteers read I Know I Can, a children's book about forming goals and figuring out how to achieve them, to 3rd Graders. After the reading, volunteers talk with the children about their strengths and goals while sharing their own college experiences.

APPLE FOR THE TEACHER DAY - Committee members plan and host Apple Day at the beginning of each school year during which fresh golden delicious apples are delivered to teachers in their schools to thank them for another year of commitment to our children. Teacher nomination forms for the Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Awards also are delivered on this day, kicking off the nomination process. To select a school(s) for delivery visit appleday.eventbrite.com.

GRANTS COMMITTEE - Golden Apple Foundation provides grants to classroom teachers in Winnebago and Boone County for innovative projects that are outside the regular school budget. This committee reviews all grant requests and determines which programs the Foundation will fund. Members cannot be employees of eligible schools/districts.

OBSERVATION COMMITTEE - These individuals observe the teaching process in the classroom of the selected semi-finalists and finalists and evaluate the teachers on predetermined criteria. Members cannot be employees of eligible schools/districts.

SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE - Volunteers plan the annual Golden Apple Awards Banquet, which honors 5 Golden Apple Teachers, and grant recipients selected for the year, plus the annual Nominee Reception, which honors all of the nominees for the Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Award.

FUND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE - Golden Apple Foundation is funded solely by the generosity of community businesses and individuals committed to excellence in education. This committee raises all the funds needed to operate the Golden Apple programs through direct solicitation of donors and annual fundraisers.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE - Members engage the community in discussions and activities that strengthen the education of our children. Examples: Community Engagement forums. Members assist the Foundation in identifying community resources that share a commitment to strengthening education, keeping resource information updated and promoting the use of the clearinghouse.
