ROCKFORD, IL-March 22, 2013--The Golden Apple Foundation Education Service Award goes to an individual or organization who exhibits a deep commitment to excellence in education in Winnebago and/or Boone County and has shared their resources, time, and expertise in a manner that has had significant impact on education in our community. This year we are pleased to award this honor to Alignment Rockford.
A nominator said, "The work of Alignment Rockford is a 'broad and far-reaching collaboration' of education professionals (administrative and teaching) and community representatives in civic, business, social, and religious organizations...The committees are formed to address high priority, student-focused needs identified by the Rockford Public Schools...We submit for nomination the entire organization called Alignment Rockford, but special mention must be made of staff members Laurie Preece, Executive Director and Diane Peters, Office and Committee Manager, who ensure that all processes work efficiently and true to the values and governance of the organization. We also would like to name Bob Guirl of United Technologies Aerospace Systems and Vice Chair of the Pathways Committee, and Earl Wilsey of Schmeling Construction, Vice Chair of the Career Awareness Committee. As they share their leadership with a school district partner (Dr. Ehren Jarrett for Pathways and Maceo Rainey for Career Awareness), they are exemplary models of true alignment of the community with District 205. All four of these individuals are amazingly generous with their time, talents, and advocacy."
