mcgeeSixth through 12th grade teachers of Winnebago and Boone Counties are invited to apply for Classroom Project Grants from Golden Apple Foundation.  Grants will be awarded for innovative projects that enhance the classroom experience but are not funded in the regular school budget.  Certified, full-time classroom teachers of grades 6-12 in the Winnebago and Boone County Schools are eligible.  Awards range from $100 to $1500.  Criteria for grant projects and examples of recently funded projects can be found on the Golden Apple website: www.goldenappleofrockford.com.

Since 1998 Golden Apple Foundation has continued to distribute grants to classroom teachers on an annual basis.  The educational experience of thousands of students has been energized with over $100,000 through this grant program.

The Golden Apple Foundation Classroom Projects Grants Program affords teachers the opportunity to develop and implement creative educational projects that enhance the learning experience of their students.  It provides teachers a resource for expanding and enhancing the curriculum for the benefit of their students.    

Recent secondary school projects funded by the program include:

  • “Underwater Robotics”- Mastering basic engineering and science concepts through designing and building underwater robots. Awarded to Christina Magee of Eisenhower Middle School, 8th grade.
  • “African American Read-In”- Promoting racial diversity and healing while fostering a love of literature utilizing literature written by African American authors. Awarded to Amy Orvis of Maria Montessori, 6th grade.
  • “Diversity Project”- Giving creative visual expression to the issue of diversity, acceptance, and individuality through large scale collaborative drawing and digital images. This project now adorns the entrance of Jefferson High School with images of students’ eyes. Awarded to Lynn Stockton of Jefferson High School, 9th-12th grade.

Grant applications must be received by the Golden Apple Foundation office no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013. CLICK HERE to download an application.
