The deadline for PreK-5th grade teachers of Winnebago and Boone Counties to apply for Classroom Project Grants from Golden Apple Foundation is November 7th, 2016. Grants will be awarded for innovative projects that enhance the classroom experience but are typically not funded in the regular school budget. Certified, full-time classroom teachers of grades PreK-5 in the Winnebago and Boone County Schools are eligible. Awards range from $100 to $1500. Since 1998 Golden Apple Foundation has continued to distribute grants to classroom teachers on an annual basis. The educational experience of thousands of students has been energized with over $106,000 through this grant program.
The Golden Apple Foundation Classroom Projects Grants Program affords teachers the opportunity to develop and implement creative educational projects that enhance the learning experience of their students. It provides teachers a resource for expanding and enhancing the curriculum for the benefit of their students.
Recent elementary school projects funded by the program include:
- "The Bookmobile: Our Library on Wheels"- A project where teachers brought a fun, mobile library into student's neighborhoods during the summer break to keep students reading year round. Awarded to Kelly Duncan At Rock Cut Elementary.
- "Skill Develpment for Students with IEPS" - A project that addressed the learning needs of students with significant cognative and physical disabilities, helping them to build fundamental and academic skills. Awarded to Ashley Smith of Fairview Early Childhood Center.
- "40 Book Challenge" - A project where students helped select various reading series that they were excited about and then accepted a challenge to read 40 books in the school year. Nearly 90% of the students met their goal and many were inspired to read many more books than they ever imagined. Awarded to Judith Dooley of Washington Academy.
